Overheard at work

"The Building Emergency has ended, an all clear has been given, It is now safe to resume your normal activities. Thank you for your cooperation."

Uh, OK. Next time I'll stay in the building to stick it to the Man? FIGHT THE POWER, BURN TO DEATH IN YOUR CUBICLE!!11!1

This is a bit cryptic MJ. To what are you referring? Could you give us a little more?

I had to take a mandatory random drug test for a job once. I receieved a letter with the results (clean) in the mail.

In the letter, they thanked me for participating.

Yeah, like I had a choice.

Uh, you'd be surprised at how some people "participate" in some of these events. I think a thank you for actually taking the drill seriously is very appropriate.

At Urbana I returned from an evening exam to find that our dorm (Snyder Hall) had been given a Tornado Warning and everyone had to go to the basement. When I got there everyone was just returning to their rooms. That was when someone poked his head out of his room (he had never left) and asked if it was over. The RA didn't thank him for his cooperation I can tell you.

At work we have had people decide that a fire drill is a perfect reason to go to a donut shop or home...

Ha! We had a 'black out' at work the other day... everyone was scrambling to make sure their battery back up was working (computers). I (half joking) said, "what about our gas lines?" (we have several tanks of assorted gasses out back for emission tests on our 2 and 4 cycle engines).

Place cleared out. Quick. I now know what is more effective than "fire!", "rape!", "help!"...

...damned power came back on the moment "...have a nice weekend folks" left our President's lips.

Gas tanks had been cleared and shut down, computers were fine... people were pissed about having to stay after being officially dismissed...

I was left wondering what happened to our "high tech alarm system".

I might bring that up sometime...
