A Screed in the Near Future

I make sure I read Jeff's site several times a day. This post really got me boiling. I will have something extended regarding this topic sometime tonight. Busy day at work otherwise, and Guard drill this weekend to boot.

One would think one could put away political considerations away for the sake of national interests. Comments such as his undermine troop morale - I can't think of any other state in the world that so openly, brazenly, and impudently undermines its military. Even Europeans, not known for their fuzzy feelings for armies, are proud of their own armed forces. This is unacceptable. I consider it akin to aiding and abetting the enemy.

I full faith and confidence in our armed forces.

I suppose the counter to that would be "Of course, we have faith in them too, just not their National Command Authority". The problem oft times, is the criticism of the higher ups devolves into a failure/incompetance/war-criminal (ie. WP nonsense) theme. I've seen damned little in the way of measured criticsm and constructive suggestions.

"measured criticsm and constructive suggestions."

You hit the whole problem on the nail. It's one thing to spout off criticism and air (supposed) problems, but it's quite another to do so in a measured and constructive manner.

Of course what irresponsible people utterly ignore is that the enemy hear what they're saying. What demoralizes our people moralizes them.

What irritates me is that people go out of their way to call Murtha a patriot and hero (and nevertheless Democrats keep saying the Republicans are attacking Murtha). I'm sorry, but if this is way he's behaving something has gone wrong and he is fair game. Attack the man, attack his irresponsibility. I see no reason to tolerate such behavior or people. But that's me. I tend to Hobbesianism and realism, and so believe in the full support, motivation, and honor for the armed forces. Without them, we'd be dead. Literally if not figuratively. Plus, what makes America unique is that we aren't out to establish a vast global American empire: our men and women are soldiers and angels of good against evil.
