Protest at funeral

More hometown news from Rockford, IL. This one touches some unique demographics - American casualties in Iraq, veterans, mourning, fundamentalism, anti-homosexuality protests, the police and, of course, the media. Lot's of exciting material here: FUNERAL PROTESTORS

Who says nothing interesting every happens in the Midwest?

ADMINISTRATORS UPDATE: Contrast. Thanks for indulging me, Mighty Q.

I am keenly aware of Phelps and his tiny band of wretched followers. He is in for quite a shock when he stands before the Judgment Seat and finds that mercy stands waaaay above the hatred he peddles. I am tempted to come out and stand between his putrid group and the fallen.

I would think that a Military Funeral is provided by the government and is therefore in a way, public and open for demonstrations.

I don't in anyway agree with the protestors of course, but do they have a right to do it? I think they may.

With that in mind MJ's suggestion that respectful and honored people should stand between the haters and the grievers might be a good one. My only fear is that even more disturbance may result. I would hate to see this get more ugly than it is.

Maybe the best answer is to ignore them. They're looking for attention. If they don't get it, they'll go away.

If they don't, call me and I'll stand next to you MAJ John.

Despicable, really. Inhuman, also. Although everyone has their freedom of speech, that freedom doesn't guarantee one to say whatever whenever one wishes. I find the 300 foot to be quite reasonable.

Is it not ironic that these people are exercising the rights which the young man died to protect?

Ignore them? Free speech? Why are you pretending we still live in a civilized society. We need to remember a few lessons we have had beaten into our heads the last few years. I reserve my right to express my own opinion by placing my boot into their windpipes. I don't know what's worse, fanatic Islam or Christianity. All inbred, uneducated parasites who don't deserve to burn my oxygen. Ignoring these mouth breathers has never worked in the past. This Marine and the rest of our brothers and sisters deserve a better send off than this. Our enemies don't disgrace themselves like the weak-ass individuals we have enjoying the freedoms of this nation.

Mighty Q - will you keep us updated as to when/if this is going to happen?

No worries, the funeral went off without the protestors. They were apparently too busy desecrating (sp) another poor soldier's burial.
